Project Objectives
  • Harnessing living marine resources and residual wine by innovative technologies that will lead to new biostimulating dermato-cosmetic products to be launched in the domestic market.

  • Stage 1/2018

    • Elaboration of experimental methods for obtaining extracts with pharmaceutical potential from marine sources and technologies for realization of mesoporous inorganic supports for their encapsulation

  • Stage 2/2019

    • Obtaining and characterization of natural bioactive compounds and their encapsulation in mesoporous matrices with pharmaceutical and bioregenerative evaluation

  • Stage 3/2020

    • Developing dermatologically-cosmetic and pharmaceutical products based on marine resources with synergic action and demonstrating their functionality.

STAGE 1/2018
Project Activities
  • Activity 1.1.
    • Selection and characterization of marine sources for the isolation of bioactive compounds
  • Indicators of achievement:
  • 1 study on potential marine sources for the extraction of protein and polysaccharide compounds
  • 2 marine organisms selected by species - Rapana venosa and Cladophora vagabunda
  • Activity 1.2.
    • Establishing technologies for obtaining protein and polysaccharide extracts from selected sources
  • Indicators of achievement: 5 Technological parameters for obtaining protein and polysaccharide extracts from marine organisms (pretreatments, extraction and purification) such as: type and concentration of extraction agent, tissue / solvent ratio, tissue / enzyme ratio, type and concentration of the substance used for purification, temperatures and working times.
  • Activity 1.3.
    • Elaboration of experimental methods for the characterization of protein and polysaccharide extracts from the selected sources
  • Indicators of achievement:
    • 4 work protocols:
      • a) 1 protocol for the quantitative determination of collagen;
      • b) 1 quantitative determination protocol of GAG (acid polysaccharides and uronic acids);
      • c) 1 quantitative in vitro biocompatibility assessment protocol;
      • d) 1 protocol for the determination of antimicrobial activity.

STAGE II

1st COMPONENT PROJECT 

Activity 2.7. Activity name: Obtaining protein and polysaccharide compounds from marine sources through advanced technologies

Indicators of achievement: 2 methods of analysis of marine species: analysis of heavy metals and analysis of pesticides; 4 types of purified bioactive compounds: COL, GEL, GAG, Pz of green algae

Activity 2.8. Activity name: Physico-chemical and biochemical analysis of protein and polysaccharide compounds from marine sources

Performance indicators: 3 optimized analysis methods:

- the electrophoresis method specific for highlighting GAG samples extracted from Rapana venosa

- FTIR spectroscopy method optimized for the evaluation of collagen and gelatin samples

- DSC method optimized for determining the distortion / melting temperature of collagen and gelatin samples

Activity 2.9. Activity Name: Evaluation of biocompatibility of protein and polysaccharide compounds in in vitro experimental models using cell cultures

Indicators of achievement: - 3 bulletins for in vitro biological analysis of the biocompatibility of GAG, COL and GEL samples according to the European standard SR EN ISO 10993-5 / 2009

Activity 2.10. Activity Name: Testing the antimicrobial activity of protein and polysaccharide compounds on different microbial strains

Indicators of achievement: 2 compounds with selected antimicrobial activity: hydroethanol extract of 70% of the green algae species Cladophora vagabunda of 10% concentration, obtained by refluxing for 2 hours and respectively the hydroethanol extract of 96% of the green algae species Cladophora vagabunda of 10% concentration, obtained by cold maceration

Activity 2.11. Activity name: Collection and drying of biological waste resulting from intermediate technological processes for conversion to obtain a biostimulator-regenerator for wine soils

Indicators of achievement: 1 protocol for biological waste processing

Activity 2.12 and Activity 2.14. Activity name: Dissemination by national and international communication and publication of results

Indicators of achievement: 4 articles published in ISI journals; 1 accepted for publication in ISI magazine, 2 articles published in BDI magazine, 24 papers communicated at international conferences (oral communications and posters), 1 workshop

Activity 2.13. Activity Name: Innovation activity and patent application filing

- 1 patent application filed with OSIM
